Kiefer / Van Gogh at Royal Academy

I got to see this fascinating exhibition before it closed late last month. I am a big fan of Vincent Van Gogh but knew very little of Anselm Kiefer. At 18 years old Kiefer received a travel grant to follow in the footsteps of Van Gogh starting in the Netherlands, through Belgium and Paris and onto Arles in France. It was very interesting to learn about the similarities between the two artists and see the work side by side. It made me realise over again how revolutionary Van Gogh's work was at the time...and left me wondering what Van Gogh would think of Kiefer's work!

Alan Watts - pointlessness

Here is a final thought before we leave the pointless project. Alan Watts talks about Zen and painting and nature and pointlessness. It’s rather old fashioned and a bit long - but bare with it, there are some good points about art abd the pointlessness of art.
