Thursday's trip to The Wilson and Pitville Park

What a joyful experience to visit The Wilson on Thursday morning and draw in Pitville Park in the afternoon. At The Wilson we visited two different exhibitions Alive in Us and Radev. I would recommend this wholeheartedly.

The Radev exhibition totally blew my socks off! It’s more than an exhibition. It’s a story of life and friendship between artists and collectors associated with the Bloomsbury Group.

I think it’s Picasso who said ‘Good artists copy - Great artists steal’ so I’m considering picking a painting from the Radev collection to study and do a sort of transcription. Think this might be a good way to challenge myself to learn more about painting.

The afternoon session drawing in the park was such an interesting experience in slowing down and looking. I’m being ‘brave’ and posting some of my drawings. I found it to be totally absorbing as an exercise but chuckled quite a lot at what I produced - it’s good to not take myself or what I produce too seriously! I’ll definitely repeat this exercise again.

Looking forward to seeing your drawings, Sharon, Go on be brave! When I feel I'm not good at something creative I remind myself I'm learning and to put my creative 'L' plates on. Which drawings do you mention about the silhouettes? The first ones that are shaded are using the side of the pencil and looking at the shapes within the people - whereas the line drawings are using the sharp end of the pencil and more focused on the shapes that make up the people like an oval for the head or triangle for the hand etc.
