My obstacles are laziness are and resorting to lounging about watching movies when I have spare time. So really its about finding the motivation to actually do art. I did enjoy putting up the fence last week, so have decided that a work based around putting up a fence may ride on the coat tails of the fencing work. I did do some thumbnails today as a start.
I thought I'd start us off sharing our goals and obstacles. My November ambitious goal is to do a series of three paintings.
My obstacles are:
I don't think I have enough knowledge about the painting process or materials
I have no confidence that I will do a good job and will probably just ruin the three canvases.
I feel silly even suggesting that I paint as everyone else is better at painting than me.
Wow! Those obstacles were automatic thoughts that I wrote down straight after I wrote out my goal. Isn't the mind an interesting thing! I have wanted to paint for a while but always put off even trying...now I know why!

Last week I popped into The Harris Art Gallery in Preston (as you do!) and saw this which reminded me of our EDC group. It's by Bob and Roberta Smith. I think the quote in the blurb might be by the artist it says:
‘The arts make people powerful because art and design is about creating new desires. It inspires people to create their own reality, to get their own thing going. Fundamentally, though, art makes people powerful because art is about our freedom of expression.’
