REALLY ENJOYED THIS!

I set myself the task to paint my memory of being in our garden as a small child. It's very specific to a small area the garden that my parents allowed me to ‘look after’. It was next to the path where there was a tiny pond with an area of soil with partial shade provided by a hedge between ours and Miss Mills’ garden. I started off by doing some writing quickly noting down all the things that came up as I started to recall memories of spending time there.

By happy chance one morning last week I walked past a rose climbing up a fence in town. The rose smelt the same as the rose that grew up over the hedge, so I stood for a while savouring the memories. When I eventually started to paint, I made a snap decision to paint on three pieces of canvas simultaneously.

I tried not to have any preconceived ideas, but I thought it would be abstract. I set off painting without trying to be figurative but as you can see from the results it is recognisable as some sort of plants and flowers. These are three small studies 11cm x 15cm approx. They didn't turn out the way I thought it would but overall I really really enjoyed painting it. Wondering what to try next?

i agree with Chris, these are so strong. The idea is beautiful, and the works are beautiful.
