A bit better
Really concentrated on trying to avoid drawn lines here.
I had to exaggerate tonal contrasts between different areas, but I think it's progress from my previous effort.
Trying to "paint" in monochrome with a charcoal pencil is a one-hand-tied-behind-one's0back job as obviously there are no colour differences available to generate chromic contrasts between different forms.

I can see quite a difference between this one and your usual drawings. Do you remember at college one time we did life drawing with Carmel? There’s a warm up study we did where we blocked in areas of tonal values (as opposed to drawing lines). This drawing here reminds me of that.
