John Piper
I’ve uploaded a photo in the comments below. This painting is at The Wilson as part of the Into Abstraction exhibition. I can’t find much info about this painting online but it’s from 1940 and by John Piper. I’m wondering if it’s an old estate that was requisitioned for the War?
Chris and I looked at and discussed it when we visited the exhibition. It is an oil painting but reminds me of a collage. Some parts of it look like torn paper - it’s intriguing! Whilst I can identify features of buildings etc it has an almost dream like quality to it. Chris and I were saying it feels like a liminal space somehow. I’d quite like to do a mixed media piece in response to this.

Fonthill estate is in Wiltshire, I think this picture is the gate house and the abbey ruins merged. I think I've done several outside catering events at some big weddings there, back in the day....
