Creative progress

I have always loved the nine portraits Cezanne painted of his Uncle Dominique in 1866. These three especially, and most especially the first one. Possibly my favourite portrait ever. I love the subtle colour palate. The earthy flesh tones and the black, and the monochrome backgrounds. The way the broad brushwork sculpts the hands and face makes me want to pick up my own brush. So this is where I'll be starting this month's brief.
