Today's creative prompt
Paul Cézanne
Slow looking, structure, repeated studies
Still lifes and landscapes as ongoing investigations
Video: https://youtu.be/eKASbQTN_YI?si=ydWrmbRAmLBxjTSB
The video above is long - 47 mins!! I skipped parts because I didn't have much time, and some sections of the conversation are about aspects I was not interested in, but it's worth watching because many of his works are discussed and shown.
Prompt:
Take something simple, set it down in a place where there is good light. draw it, paint it, study it, look at its appearance. Use different media - water colour, pencil, paint, photogrphs etc. Don't be afraid to make adjustments to the picture as you search for the right placement of a shape, edge, or contour. Leave all your searching lines and adjustments on the surface. Keep the subject simple and your looking and responding focused. Respond in your own style, but embody the ethos of simple subject, long looking. Maybe begin a few different studies and then come back to them over time - over several days if possible. This is study - visual research more than it is making an artwork with a predetermined outcome in mind. have fun.
