Meeting references and links.
Hi Folks great meeting today. Im looking forward to writing this next brief for us. Love the work from this month well done. Below are some links from today's chat: pretty slick oil painter shows how he paints a portrait. i like the early stages of the painting best where he is basically starting with the Notan in brown paint to get the basic structure and balance of tones. He is by no means a fuaavist - more traditional than that. but good to look at the way he build sand image starting with the bold Notan.
The article I mentioned about Notan and the beach scene: https://willkempartschool.com/how-to-use-notan-design-to-create-compelling-compositions-in-your-paintings/
Im stuggling to find anything good on you tube about Richters 48 portraits. This video is a rather straight walk through a big exhiobition of Richters photo paintings with the 48 portaits in the middle. The presenter dosint give much in terms of meaning or theory but its a nice walk through with few bits of food for thought. https://youtu.be/wFNQpYI_GBs?si=DT3miyceYyZzqBS4
This lovely video about Richter is shorter presented very insightfully by an art critic who seems to be making the video while the gallery is open to the public ... very cool and laid back , I love it. He makes greayt points about the general artistic aims of Gerhard Richter's photo paintings.
