Look for subject matter that you can draw. Don’t ask why you are drawing certain things or what they might mean—simply draw what feels fun or interesting to translate into line and tone.
You might feel compelled to try any of the following:
Partially erase sections of a drawing or make areas paler
Superimpose new drawings over previous ones
Layer drawings using tracing paper
Collage elements together
Collage printed images into drawings, or drawings into printed images
Cut drawings up and reconfigure them
Superimpose abstract mark-making, geometry, or gestures over drawings or collages
Create a drawing in stages, adding to it over time as you discover new things
Select reference materials or images for their contextual meaning or connotations, without trying to fix a single, singular meaning for the work(s)
Take what you like from the above.
