Memory of swimming
Swimming in the sea in West Wales especially Caerfai Bay, Pembrokeshire. It is one mile south of St David’s. The rocks there are vivid pinks, purples and greens. This is more gestural and I really got into spending time applying the paint with a palette knife. I read that Abstract Expressionism is more about expression and less about perfection. There is a part I really don't like in my painted studies that I really want to change. In an attempt to focus on expression rather than perfection I'll wait a day (if I can) and decide whether to change it tomorrow (they are only meant to be studies after all!) So more expressive - but still not very abstract?

I would say they are as abstract as they need to be. I love how the image cuts across three panels. It's immersive- like being in water or under the water. Are these small works? Could you play with scale? Try the same themes of a larger format maybe?
