My research

I started the research phase by looking at artists that use text in their work - Cecil Touchon, Henri Michaux, Roland Barthes, Cy Twombly, Mark Tobey, Robert Motherwell. Then realised there's no female artists there so looked at Jenny Holzer, Kay Rosen and Barbara Kruger.

THEN...I did a bit of a leap to JOAN MITCHELL, 1952 - 1992, Painter, second generation Abstract Expressionist. I like her work but knew next to nothing about her so have enjoyed researching her.

I have also been keeping note of the non-art things I love. Me and Joan Mitchell seem to have being inspired by the natural world in common (researching is also on my list of non-art things I love!)

Next, I'd like to make some work thatinclude the main elements of Mitchell's painting - gesture, spontaneity, and emotional expression.

I'm intrigued by your selection of Ladybug. Not least because to my eyes it looks very different to what I know of your work and so I'm interested to see how you draw on it.
