I had a look at Agnes Martin and Viga Celmins. Martin's work might be tranquil or boring depending on your POV. Often just one colour.
Celmins , originally from Latvia chooses elemental subjects like deserts, ocean, spider web, paints from a photo in monotone/grayscale. No composition. Cosmic, patient. Immense amount of work. Likens herself to a spider.
Both made me reflect . Neither gave me pleasure.

Interesting comments, Barbara. I sort of know Agnes Mrtin but the name Viga Celmins doesn't ring a bell so I'll have to look her up. Have they inspired you at all in your response to the brief?
