Patterns made into a series
Looking at different types of patterns in nature led me onto thoughts of different patterns in the seasons, which I thought would also tie well into my continuing Wye Valley Artist in Residence project. I've not used chalk pastels before, so I thought I would give them a go; this was tricky as the ones I discovered were obviously old and had hardened. I persevered though, and only used a touch of acrylic/marker when needed to create this in my residency project book (not sure the colours come out well but hopefully you get the picture):

I did use a fixative, which changed the colours. It actually scared me when I first did it as the fixitive spray almost made the chalk pastels disappear at first, then they thankfully mostly came back as it dried. Had to touch them up with a little extra colour afterwards.
