This is the painter I spoke about. This short video is from the exhibition I saw of her work in 2019. The middle section of the video is all about her self portraits.

When I saw the exhibition I remember being very moved by many of the pieces. There was something very arresting about the paintings. The work that caught my attention was at the start of the exhibition and of her career...It is called The Door, 1884.

There is something magnificent about it! It seems to be a foretaste of all that was to come in her work. The whole exhibition had a big impact upon me. I visited it in August 2019 and then started at Stroud School of Art on the FdA course the following month. Thank you, Helene Schjerfbeck for your encouragement along the way. She is becoming one of my many distant relatives within the worldwide family of art!
